In YuGiOh cards can go up and down in value quite frequently. Cards get Banned, Restricted, Unbanned, Reprinted, Widely Distributed, or sometimes the metagame shifts and something becomes the new tech or some staple is no longer needed.
Whenever a new set comes out it is amazingly hot. you can usually get a $30-$50 card by trading one of the 2 or 3 overrated super rares from a brand new set, if you pull the "chase ultra rare" shown on the booster packs cover you can generally expect your hobby store or online traders to bend over and let you give it to them trade wise. (same is true with DBZ/GT URs as most know)
There are two purposes of this thread: first, I will link to ExMoD's ebay price guide from pojo.com. (credit goes to pojo, ExMoD, and whoever helped him compile this latest version, credit is subtracted from Evan Vargas because he sucks) Hobby stores and magazines can have outragous/out of date prices. A card is not worth more cash than the online community as a whole is willing to pay for it on Ebay. These prices are taken as an average of Buy-it-Now values from auctions that end with the item sold.
here's the link:
(exmod has given me permission to link to his priceguide but the new version should be up in less than a week... the old version is a few months out of date)
here's the old out-of-date price guide:

Second, users can post their agreed or completed trades on this thread. I am not trying to present trades that involve one party ripping off an uninformed second party, instead please post trades that are made with experienced and knowledgeable players/collectors (or if you do want to post your n00b rip please point it out as such)
This thread will hopefully help users to get the most out of their valuable cards so your collection can increase in coolness
some of my recent trades:
------------------------------------------------
trade agreed on pojo.com
my:
cyber twin dragon x2 (1st ed) (ebay $14 each)
cyber mag x2 (1st ed) (ebay $10 each)
cyber dragon (1st ed) (ebay $20)
monster reincarnation (1st ed) (ebay $4)
total value:$72
his:
ult pheonix (ebay $50)
ult SSlv5 x2 (ebay $30 each)
total value:$110
cyber dragons may only be ebaying as $20 cards but they trade as $30 cards, cyber twin dragon trades as a $25 card easily. SSlv5 will be going up in value if dark hole really gets unbanned, he is some good against it. Trade arranged less than 1 month after CRV's prerelease while the set was widly available.
-------------------------------------------------
trade agreed on pojo.com
my:
breaker the magic warrior (ebay $23)
his:
ult Armed Dragon lv7 (ebay $25)
Reflect bounder (ebay $15)
this trade was made with a very very very experinced trader, it looks lopsided but we both got what we wanted. I was trading for a fattie ultimate rare and he was getting an amazingly strong in-demand staple. you can pretty much get whatever you want for a breaker because it is such a great card and should be in every deck (I'm sure he will turn around and get an ultimate horus or 2 cyber dragons for it). this trade was made iwth both parties knowing that breaker is going to be reprinted in 5 or 6 weeks inside master's collection 2 but the original versions will still maintain 90% of their value.
-------------------------------------------------
trade agreed on pojo.com
my:
Big Sheild Guarda (DB1) ` (ebay $20)
Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch (1st ed) (ebay $5)
Power Bond (1st ed) (ebay $23)
total: $48
his:
Ultimate rare Pheonix (ebay $50)
Exarion Universe (ebay $15)
total: $65
Big Shield is super hot right now, Power bond is an Ultra rare from the new set. This means I get hooked up. Exarion is gonna be one of my 5 favorite cards for the next year or so, he is powerful sexy.
-------------------------------------------------
trade agreed on pojo.com
My:
2x Zarborg the Thunder Monarch (ebay $5 each)
3x Book of Moon (ebay $2 for set of 3)
2x GK Spy (ebay $1 each)
1x GK Spear Soldier (ebay $1)
His:
Creator (1st ed) (ebay $20)
Gravekeeper cards have been pretty hot lately. Max Suffrage won the US national championship with a chaos deck that ran gravekeeper spy x2 and gravekeeper guard x1. There was a gravekeeper beatdown deck that top 8'd at GenCon Shonen Jump Championship. Be careful trading away your necrovalleys, thay are super hot right now.
-------------------------------------------------
trade agreed on pojo.com
my:
slate warrior x2 (promo) (ebay $10 each)
his:
gate guardian (ebay $40)
well this guy is from Estonia and I guess sometimes you gotta trade your valuable cards for some playable promos when buying the game they come in is not an option. I know some video game promos that were only included in european video game releases are worth $80+ over here in the USA (even though the card totally blows)
-------------------------------------------------
trade agreed on yugiohforums.com
my:
CyberED (1st ed) (ebay $40)
power bond (1st ed) (ebay $23)
his:
SPoN (ult) (ebay $50)
2x Abyss Soldier (ebay $7 each)
well I guess I got ripped because this trade is even and I traded him one of the 2 most in-demand cards in the game (other than cyber dragon) but I wanted to hook him up and was just starting to trade for big ultimates. once I went to pojo with my new stuff my standards raised quite a bit.
-------------------------------------------------
trade agreed on pojo.com
my:
Blue Eyes White Dragon (DDS) (ebay $40)
Creature Swap x2 (1st ed) (ebay $4 each)
Snatch Steal (1st ed) (ebay $5)
Blue Eyes White Dragon (LOB) (1st ed) (ebay $30)
Ceasefire (1st ed) (ebay $3)
value: $86
his:
Ultimate AGG, 1/e (ebay $40)
Ultimate Creator, 1/e (ebay $35)
Brain Control (ebay $15)
Airknight Parshath TP6 (ebay $10)
value: $90
This guy I was also hooking up, traded a hard to get video game Blue eyes and a first edition for 2 chase ultimates and some other tradable stuff... we both got what we wanted and I will be able to get those 2 versions of Blue eyes back from other people with some over-valued CRV cards (hopefully)
--------------------------------------------------
Alright, I guess that's enough bragging for one post, hopefully some of this info can help keep you from getting ripped from online or local trades, I will adjust some of the above ebay values when ExMoD's new priceguide is released, the above values are a result of my own seaches and generally accepted values.
